4 Colour Reduction Linocut Printmaking

Clayton Tremlett has twenty years experience in arts education, and specialises in Linocut, Etching and Tetra Pak processes. His work is represented in the Australian National Gallery, Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Geelong, Monash University, Mornington Peninsula, Wangaratta, Warrnambool and State Library of Victoria collections.
Overview
This workshop explores the basics of carving, registering and printing a 4 Colour Reduction Linocut print. Linocut printmaking comes under the title of Relief Printing, whereby a Lino block, is carved with tools and the remaining surface is inked with a roller and printed on paper. A one colour print generally starts with a design as reference and is printed by using either a printing press or rubbing the back of the paper with a spoon or baren.
To produce a 4 colour reduction Linocut print, the same process is repeated multiple times using the same block, carving and printing successive layers of colour (it can be either lighter or darker) one over another on the same piece of paper… this builds up colour on the print but reduces the block after each carving.
This workshop is excellent for printers who may have done the Linocut Portraiture workshop previously and looking to extend their skills.
