Art and Text
with David Golightly

4-week course Tuesdays commencing 5th May

10 am - 1 pm

David Golightly lives in Newstead and may well be familiar to you through Open Studios and various exhibitions. He is a very experienced teacher, and holds a Masters degree in Vis Arts, Dip Art and Design majoring in ceramics and printmaking.

Overview

This course will investigate the use of text in art. While primarily focusing on drawing, the course will include elements of painting to extend the potential for richer exploration. The overall aim will be to produce a series of related works on paper that could be presented in their final form as individual works, a journal, a book or a 2D narrative.

This is not a writing course but an exercise in incorporating text in a creative manner into your original artworks. You will have the opportunity to utilise your own written work or borrow from other sources.

Related topics include:

  • handwriting, script and abstraction
  • the history of the written word
  • font design
  • writers such as Virginia Woolf, Jack Kerouac and James Joyce
