Creative Drawing
with David Golightly
Mondays starting 21 October for 6 weeks
10 am - 1 pm
David Golightly lives in Newstead and may well be familiar to you through Open Studios and gallery exhibitions in Castlemaine. He will be teaching creative drawing, with an emphasis on not only basic drawing skills but on breaking rules, risk taking and experiment. David is a very experienced teacher, and holds a Masters degree in Vis Arts, Dip Art and Design majoring in ceramics and printmaking.
Overview
First 3 weeks: experimental and creative drawing exercises to loosen up students’ drawing method, observe the whole subject matter rather than small details, sharpen observation, introduce ways of ‘seeing’ (ie positive space v negative space) and increase creative awareness.
Second 3 weeks: slow drawing, closer observation, looking at details, playing with composition and arrangement, exploring lines of enquiry, working towards finished pieces, introducing colour.
The second half of the course will allow students to introduce subject matter and ideas of their own to pursue. To assist in this, a journal will kept by students for the duration of the course in the form of a sketch book, exercise book, series of sheets in a folio etc. This will contain notes taken in class, ideas, articles of interest, roughs, photographs, research material etc.
The course will aim to produce a series of finished drawings (as defined by the student) presented and explained by students at the final class.
Course cost $280
